Where Is The Fish Sanctuary?

Why is there no sanctuary for fish? I loved my beautiful Koi which was 12" long when released back into the wild, after it and its large but ordinary goldfish mate outgrew their 50-gallon tank, and I grew too old to maintain it. It is against the law to return fish to the world into which they were born, releasing pet fish into a stream or lake is forbidden, and there is no alternative place for domestic fish.

So one will raise an ornamental fish for years, enjoy its beauty and vigor, hear it splash water asking to be feed, feel it swim into the palm of your hand, hand-feed it, look into its eyes, love it, but then slaughter it when one can no longer care for it? What a cruel world. Will someone please provide sanctuary for pet fish?
