My Last Pet

My cat Margaret is near the end of her life and she has stopped grooming. Every day I rub her down with a warm wet washcloth and run a brush over her. Surprisingly, she likes this. Or more precisely, since I do not prolong her "bath", she likes her fur fresh and clean.

She usually lays on a foam cushion gazing out from under a scarf tent that I rigged up for her. She can see me through the gauzy scarf but all I can see of her is the end of her tail (pun). Sometimes she asks me to turn on the electric fireplace for heat and to watch the dancing flames. I will especially miss her when she is gone as I am old too and she is my last pet.
