Old Taste Buds

Annmarie Throckmorton, M.A.

There are exaggerated reports of a heavy winter storm today, from my window it just looks like winter.  However, since everyone else has gone to cover I am staying inside too, happily hunkering down, spending my day cooking vegetarian, making something yummy.  My main meal of the day is more complicated than usual:  the Mesoamerican "Three Sisters" which is corn, beans, and squash (I have yams for squash which is close enough), in a chili tomato sauce over rice. Cooking is fun, I don't even mind the clean-up which I do as I cook, washing this bowl or that utensil as I go.

This was an excellent day planned, which turned out less than half as well as I had hoped.  The flavor of questionable canned vegetables from the food bank on old taste buds is a fail.  Oh well, at least my old self is warm, safe, fed, hydrated, and contentedly inside.
