"For pneumonic plague, the death rate can reach 100%...A 28-year-old lab technician at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute in Siberia died of severe pneumonia, reportedly linked to plague...Yersinia pestis...At least 197 people who may have had contact with her were reportedly placed under medical observation, with more than 100 of them in hospital wards. The Shelekhov district hospital was quarantined, planned public events in Irkutsk were canceled, and a criminal investigation into possible health-safety violations was reportedly opened."
