For those who are young or for whom English is a second language, AI says the literal meaning of the expression lying at my feet is: "...A dog or a cat is often described as lying at your feet when it curls up or rests on the floor directly beneath or beside where you are sitting or sleeping. This behavior usually shows trust, a desire for warmth, and loyalty."

Yes, that totally describes my cat Achilles if you add in that he is literally guarding me, always. Today he was guarding me as I worked online in a cold house. What a magnificent cat he is!
