No Marks Of Distinction

Is it true that men and women are no longer wearing hats, except perhaps when cold?  How about ties, scarves, and shawls?  Are they all packed away like those pretty folding fans women in prior centuries used to snap open with flair and flutter about the face?  Such accessories reveal social standing and personality, but in this age of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) are such markers passé?  Maybe no one wants to appear eager to stand out in a crowd where all must be equals, each of us standing along a level line and no one dipping below for a lark or soaring high for the joy of it.

The catch is that without those accessory markings of success and distinction like hats and fans which mask who we are, our individual physical and intellectual endowments become much more prominent and have the potential to overpower efforts to effect DEI.

No risk of that yet though, I for one am afraid to even wear a red MAGA (Make America Great Again) hat in public for fear of being assaulted for it.
