Prehistoric people of the Andean region of South America used irregularly shaped, tightly interlocking stonework and trapezoidal foundations, door, and windows in their architecture to resist the earthquakes that are common in areas such as Peru and Bolivia; but the same architectural style is found throughout the world, for example in ancient construction in India. Some speculate that the trapezoidal "door" are portals, which begs the question.
