Kennebec River at Calumet Bridge in Augusta, Maine

This 120-mile river was named by the Abnaki Indians,
Kennebec means “long, quiet waters”.
The Kennebec has Atlantic salmon, striped bass, American shad, alewife,
blueback herring, rainbow smelt, and
the rare Atlantic sturgeon; bald eagles hunt overhead.
Other birds on the Kennebec include: ospreys, herons, cormorants, and kingfishers.
The historic waterfront runs along Water Street in Augusta, the capitol of Maine.
