In a recent phone call to my girlfriend who has moved away but with whom I enjoy monthly phone calls, I told her about a waking vision I had just had, perhaps a precognition, an awful insight into the future with my heart and soul saying, please God no.

In five or six seconds as I was awakening in the darkness of the night, I was confronted with a vision of the barrel of a gun, gleaming out of the dark, pointing at me in the darkness.  I even saw a ruddy metal sheen along its length, with the malicious hand that held it still in shrouds of darkness.

As I twisted to dive down to the right to escape I felt deep regret because I realized that I was not quick enough, and there was no place for me to escape to.  I would be shot.  Dear God please no.
