Dreamscape jewelry is unique, handmade with silver, gold, and other kinds of shine caught forever in water-clear resin.  Each piece of dreamscape jewelry, pendants, earrings, rings, and so on, is strange and mysterious in its own way, teasing you to dream into it.  It is beautiful but what do you see in it, an array of precious bits or nature in the mist?

Dreamscape jewelry is sold at fairs and festivals throughout the world.  When I lived in Ohio a friend of mine named Michiko* made dreamscape jewelry in her garage and then sold it at nearby county fairs.  She said that she enjoyed sitting at her popup stand, shaded by her large umbrellas, and chatting with the crowd as they flowed by.  Her dreamscape jewelry was exquisite and the fact that she was Japanese with a pretty accent made her encounters even more interesting for everyone.  The day that I sat with Michiko at her stand somewhere in the corn fields of Ohio, her elderly Italian husband (a retired professional of some sort that was never quite clear) and their beautiful adult daughter checked in with her from time to time, sometimes sitting with her.  It was a pleasant and successful family side-venture for them.

As the afternoon wound down, during the increasing lulls between customers Michiko and I talked, and she expressed concern for her daughter who had left her husband in Texas and would soon file for divorce.  Apparently said husband was a rough border control officer who had a temper especially when he drank, a trifecta of red flags for any woman who is fleeing a marriage.  I hated to say anything but I felt that I must tell her that statistics show that women are most at risk in an abusive relationship when they try to leave it.  Michiko became visibly upset and called her daughter and husband to her.  They packed up the stand quickly and we left for the day.  Michiko said that she intended to keep her daughter safe in Ohio, and Michiko herself would go to settle her daughter's affairs.  I reminded Michiko that she herself would be at risk which in her anger she had not considered, and I suggested that maybe they could file for divorce while the whole family remains out-of-state.  She seemed mollified by that course of action.

One year I saw Michiko once a week when a girlfriend named Kathy drove us all, me, Michiko, and Michiko's daughter to a Japanese floral art class in a nearby town.  Then Michiko and her family moved to Hawaii, but before she left she invited Kathy and I to each choose a piece of her dreamscape jewelry.  Someone stole my dreamscape piece but I still have the memories.***

Survivors of domestic violence are particularly at risk when they leave the abusive partner, with a 75% increase in violence upon separation." - random internet source.
