Falling Asleep At The Wheel
Yesterday while I was driving back to Bloomington, Illinois from another of my late father's court hearings for loss of his leg due to nursing home neglect, I kept falling asleep at the wheel. For the first time in my life I had to pull over on a freeway exit and take a cat nap. I do not know how long I slept but no one stopped to trouble me with wanting to know if I was okay. When I was young and tried to close my eyes to rest in public it seemed that every man that passed by felt that it was his right and duty to stop and ask me if I was okay. The scruffier they looked, the harder it was to get rid of them. Not so yesterday, I slept enough on the roadside so that I could safely drive home.
