New Texas Abortion Limits Set Draconian Example

Dinesh D'Souza and his wife Debbie said "Texas' New Pro-Life Bill is Genius" on his YouTube channel recently. Debbie and Dinesh D'Souza are respectively a recording artist and former worship leader and an Indian-American right-wing political commentator, provocateur, author, filmmaker, YouTuber...

Mr. D'Souza (whom I admire and agree with in many other regards) said:

"Debbie and I marvel at the ingeniousness of the Texas pro-life law and show why it provides a whole new pathway around Roe v. Wade." His wife spoke to her personal experiences with miscarriage and how those feelings caused her to believe that abortion is wrong.

Texas recently passed a so-called “heartbeat bill” which bans abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy. However, "Medical and reproductive health experts say the reference to a heartbeat is medically inaccurate as an embryo does not have a developed heart at six weeks’ gestation."

My comment as Tardigrade to the D'Souzas:

A baby inside of a woman is literally part of that woman, you have such hubris to want to force her to remain pregnant, to bear a child (possibly losing her life doing so), and to support it for the rest of her life. You will not be there over the years to help her financially, emotionally. Very few, if any, will be there to help her raise a child she did not want. How cruel you all are. You even judge that she should want any child she conceives. It seems that you secretly want to punish her. Forcing someone to do something with their own body is a very intimate punishment.

You have overweening hubris. A fetus is called a fetus because it is not yet a baby, stop pretending that the words are the same. You should know better. Many women have irregular periods and do not even know that they are pregnant at six weeks. Tests for serious deformities (that no one would chose to live with) cannot be done so early. You have a heartbeat on the inside of your wrist where nurses used to measure your pulse, would you call your wrist a baby? Or the pulse on the inside of your elbow, the side of your neck, the top of your foot? None of these heartbeats are babies. Grow up, stop romanticizing.

I still grieve over my own miscarriage over fifty years ago but I would never presume to use my love and longing for that lost child that might have been, to force another woman to bear unwanted children.

For those children who find out their mother killed their sibling, how do you believe they will react? Especially on an argument!? Nasty things are said in the heat of the moment are you confident no negative words will come forth??

Dear Sharon, everything you say is true but it is true for you and not for everyone. Our laws are intended to govern everyone and therefore, conservatively, they should be limited. This means that we should not forbid abortion inside a woman's body-that is my truth.
