Quick Notes On Back Pain

I have had back injury/pain for decades, and here is what I know to ameliorate the pain:

1. After my own research I have declined any back surgery because I feel that the medical profession's 60-82% claimed success rates* are not favorable enough. I also take no drugs.

2. Zen Priest Thich Nhat Hanh suggested that those troubled by back pain might ease it by cradling it in the arms of the mind, gently and tenderly, as if it were a newborn. When I can bring myself to mentally "cradle" my monster pain in this way, it actually helps me. It is very difficult to do.

3. All of the many doctors whom I have seen over the decades for my chronic back pain have consistently said that activity, moderate exercise, will keep the muscles strong around whatever defect is causing the pain, and that may lessen the pain. So, I try to stay mobile.
