Area 51—Use of Deadly Force Authorized

Before I managed to get away from him, the man who deceived me, drugged me into marrying him, then stole my money, took me out into the desert, driving along Nevada State Route 375, where there were several roadside signs advertising extraterrestrials.* He was traveling from Phoenix, Arizona to Carson City, Nevada in the hopes of gaining employment at the same high level governmental research facility where his brother worked. He made a side trip when he saw the signs for the United States Air Force's top secret Area 51.** A little way in he pulled his Land Rover over to fencing along the roadside, next to a weathered sign that read: "Area 51 Use Of Deadly Force Authorized Do Not Enter". He hopped the fence, walked in among the cactuses, unzipped his pants, and peed with contempt for Area 51's rules and regulations. He was quite satisfied with himself. Perhaps he had been refused employment there, he had incontrovertibly impressive scientific credentials. I did not ask, I was waiting for my chance to leave him.

Late that night around the witching hour of well after midnight, back at the trailer park in his small, unpleasant travel camper (which he had said was his geological research vehicle but which turned out to be his primary residence), we suddenly woke to the sounds and winds of a massive aircraft hovering low over the camper. Coward that he was, he would not get up because he feared it was extraterrestrials come to abduct him. I opened the door to see what was creating such an uproar in the darkness. Low overhead a massive black helicopter was bobbing up and down creating massive winds that buffeted the trailer. It strobed me with brilliant lights. I was too overwhelmed by the entire situation to be frightened, and I immediately shut the door in disgust. The United States Air Force helicopter eventually had its fill of retribution and left. It took another week before I was somewhere my parents could wire me money so that I could escape from him and that fraudulent marriage which was rife with bizarre incidents.

It is my understanding that marriage fraud can have both civil and criminal consequences including time in prison, but escaping that fraudulent marriage left me too drained to do anything other than sue for an annulment. It took my lawyer an entire year of legal battling to have that marriage annulled. At the end of it all my lawyer looked me in the eye with all sincerity and said, "Your marriage is now annulled, I wish I could have made you a widow." He also voluntarily refunded half of his legal fees to me.

* Deep in Nevada desert, runs a lonely stretch of highway...(T)his is Nevada State Route 375, but since 1996, it’s popularly referred to as the “Extraterrestrial Highway” because of the countless UFO sightings people claim to have made along this route.

** "Extraterrestrial Highway (Hwy 375)...is close to the mysterious Area 51, a super-secret Air Force test facility, and in the 1980's and 1990's there have been many sightings of unidentified objects near the base. Even today visitors and locals alike often see strange lights in the night-sky while driving down the highway."
