A Winter Rose From My Garden

Very high winds last night brought bitter cold. The squirrels, rabbits, birds, and other little bits of life must be crouched low against my frozen yard; and I wondered yet again how is it that I am safe today, when most are not? Amazingly, I find a winter rose in a sheltered spot.

My First Birthday Completely Alone

It is a solemn thought to be completely alone in the world at age sixty-eight. Both parents have passed from life, both siblings have absconded with family assets that should have been shared, and I am abandoned. All I have is my gentle, pleasant life and my will to do good works.
